Flu season is here! Getting your annual flu vaccine is one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you.

Bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that feed on the blood of people and animals. They can be found in homes, apartments, hotels, dormitories, and other places where people live or stay.

Having bed bugs is not an indication of poor cleanliness. Bed bugs are excellent hitchhikers and can be transported from one location to another on luggage, clothing, furniture, bedding, and other personal belongings.

Signs of Bed Bugs

Signs of a possible bed bug infestation may include:

  • Live bed bugs or shed skins
  • Small dark or reddish spots on mattresses, bedding, furniture, or nearby surfaces
  • Small eggs or eggshells
  • Bites or unexplained skin irritation, although bites alone cannot confirm the presence of bed bugs

Bed bugs commonly hide in and around mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards, furniture, baseboards, cracks, and crevices.

What should I do if I find Bed Bugs?

Early identification and treatment can help prevent bed bugs from spreading. If you suspect bed bugs:

  • Avoid moving furniture, bedding, or belongings to other rooms, which may spread the infestation.
  • Reduce clutter where bed bugs can hide.
  • Wash and dry bedding and clothing as appropriate, using high heat when the item can safely tolerate it.
  • Vacuum areas where bed bugs may be hiding and dispose of vacuum contents carefully.
  • Consider contacting a licensed pest management professional experienced in treating bed bugs.

Bed bugs can be difficult to eliminate, and successful treatment may require multiple steps or treatments.

Do not apply pesticides to your body, clothing, bedding, or other surfaces unless the pesticide label specifically allows that use.
