Private Well Water Testing
Mitchell County Public Health can test private well water to help ensure your drinking water is safe. Routine private well water testing should be completed once a year because water quality can change over time, even if the water looks, smells, and tastes normal. Changes in groundwater, flooding, agricultural activity, well damage, or other environmental conditions can affect the quality of your drinking water.
Routine testing can help identify potential problems early and provides peace of mind that your well water is safe for you and your family. There is currently no cost for routine private well water testing while grant funding is available.
Our routine private well water testing includes:
- E. coli
- Nitrate
- Coliform bacteria
- Additional testing for arsenic and manganese is recommended every three years and is available for an extra cost.
To request well water testing, contact Mitchell County Public Health at 641-832-3500.
