2026 Mitchell County Health Snapshot Provides Look at Local Health Trends

Mitchell County Public Health & Home Health shares the 2026 Mitchell County Health and Human Services System Snapshot, a brief overview of key health indicators and social factors affecting the well-being of local residents.The snapshot highlights important data related to population health, access to care, mental health, substance use, economic stability, and chronic disease trends in Mitchell County. The goal is to provide community members, leaders, and partners with a clear picture of factors influencing health across the county. 

According to the snapshot, Mitchell County has a population of 10,632 residents with a life expectancy of 79.1 years.  The data also shows that the entire county is designated as a Primary Care and Mental Health Provider Shortage Area, highlighting ongoing challenges related to access to healthcare services.  The report also notes that 23.3% of adults report binge drinking, slightly higher than the Iowa average, and approximately 1,010 residents experience food insecurity.  These and other indicators help identify areas where community partnerships and public health initiatives can make the greatest impact.
